Hello, I'm Rachel!

 

I have been a private music instructor offering lessons to students of all ages and abilities in the Guelph area for over 8 years, with previous experience in Kingston and the Greater Toronto Area. I am a classically-trained musician with over 20 years of experience in a variety of styles and genres. In past years I have been a member of Queen’s Symphony, Wilfrid Laurier Symphony, and Queen’s Musical Theatre and Solar Piano Trio, while also playing a variety of solo and chamber recitals. Ensemble playing is one of my favourite parts of being a musician, and I am currently performing as part of a duo for local weddings and events!

My goal as a teacher is to provide students with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of playing violin and to provide them with a safe and positive space to build on those skills. My curriculum starts with a collection of traditional, classical, and popular music informed by the Royal Conservatory of Music and Suzuki Association, and students are supported in exploring their favourite genres and styles as they gain the necessary skills. I believe in taking a student-led approach to lessons by working with each student to design a personalized lesson plan based on their goals and educational needs as well as their interests.
